WATER STREET LOFTS ROCKFORD ILLINOIS
This 53,000 SF mixed-use residential project along Rockford's historic riverfront, seeks to inject new vitality into Rockford's urban renewal program. The developer is working closely with the City of Rockford to adaptively re-use an existing two-level parking garage to provide 22 housing units and 12,000 SF of retail and office space.
The design is distinguished by a brick plinth, which shields the existing parking structure from view, topped with a series of colorful wooden boxes. The office component forms a dramatic cantilever, creating a monumental canopy for the retail space.
